We had a fantastic Viking immersion day in Year 4 on Monday. The children looked absolutely wonderful in their costumes - thank you parents.
We had a wonderful day immersing ourselves into the lives of Vikings. We started the day by thinking of lots of questions we wanted to find out about the Vikings based on prior knowledge. We then wrote messages to our friends in runes and went outside to carve them in the soil.
The children loved learning a game called Hnefatafl which was a bit like chess. We found it tricky at first but soon starting to learn some good strategies to beat our opposing army.
Finally, we spent the afternoon designing shields and weaving bracelets which most children took home to finish off. The immersion day really inspired us and now we are eager to learn lots more about the Vikings throughout the term.
