We have had a fantastic start to the Spring term by immersing ourselves into our new Egyptian topic. We had a fantastic immersion day in which the children dressed up (thanks again to parents for allowing this to happen) and started learning about Ancient Egyptian civilisation. We first made some papyrus and learnt that this grew wild along the banks of the River Nile (later we added some Egyptian maths to these).
We then learnt about hierogylphics and had a go at writing our name using them. We also learnt about Egyptian clothing and then made an Egyptian collar, which the wealthy would have worn. Finally, we began learning about the pyramids and how pharaohs wanted to be buried with things for the afterlife.
In English, we have started our biographies on Cleopatra. The children found the fun facts hilarious that she used to bathe in donkey's milk and even married her brother! In maths, we have been learning how to use short division (bus stop method).
In science, we have started our new topic on sound and so far we have learnt how sound is made, how we hear it and how pitch can be altered with musical instruments. Year 4 have really impressed me with their scientific skills of pattern seeking!
