Year 4 have been thoroughly immersed into our new topic this term on mountains.
We have learnt how mountains and volcanoes are formed due to tectonic plates on the Earth's crust. We used peeled orange skin to demonstrate these tectonic plates and what would happen if they pushed together. We have practised rolling and pinching clay; this will help us when we come to make a clay model of the Earth's layers.
In maths, we have started a new topic (statistics) in which we have interpreted data from pictograms, bar charts, line graphs, Venn and Carroll diagrams.
In English, we have been looking at how authors use figurative language and word choices to create atmosphere. We went outside and used the mound on the field to help us with our senses. We closed our eyes and imagined we were on a mountain! This was a great experience and we were able to create a descriptive word bank as a result. We will use these when we come to write our mountainous settings this week.
