DT
INTENT
High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation. At Barnack, the children are given opportunities to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems. They learn how to take risks and become resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens.
CURRICULUM OBJECTIVES
We aim to ensure children:

-
develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks and to participate successfully in an increasing technological world;
-
build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make products;
-
critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products
-
understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
IMPLEMENTATION
To ensure we expressly address specific strands of the DT curriculum we utilise a two year rotation of core skills (1) Food Technology (2) Design Process. In addition we over support our design and technology teaching, by using the Design and Technology elements of the Prospectus scheme combined with other resources which links to each class’ topic.
IMPACT
In addition to specific skills and knowledge we ensure the children have a thorough grasp of the design process and the impact and importance of design on technology and wider society.
